Our Birds
The following breeds are what we rear on our own farm. We always have birds and hatching eggs in stock but please call us first to find out more about current stock levels.

Cream Legbar
These started as a Araucanas x Barred Plymouth Rock and at a later date Gold Legbars were used to give today’s Cream Legbar, the layer of pure sky blue eggs. These are pretty little birds classed as Light pure Breeds. As a bonus these birds seem to do well in mixed flocks and their head feathers make them stand out nicely from the crowd. The eggs are ideal for inclusion in mixed-colour boxes. The chicks can be sexed as day olds. |

Gold Legbar
Developed during the war years with the original mix being a Leghorn x Barred Plymouth Rock. These are probably the best egg layers, laying beautiful pure white eggs. They retain the upright carriage of the Leghorn.
White eggs becoming more popular these days again and are ideal for inclusion in mixed-colour boxes. They can tend to be a bit flighty around strangers. The chicks can be sexed as day olds. |

Welbar
Welbars are a pure breed chicken, originally developed during the war years in Cambridge, they are the best of Welsummers and Barred Plymouth Rocks. Very pretty birds, hardy and good dark brown egg layers. They are classed as Heavy Pure Breeds and carry themselves nicely. Without doubt one of the best looking of the 'barred' birds. The chicks can be sexed as day olds. |
|
|
Rhodebar
A Rhode Island Red x Barred Plymouth Rock. These stunning pure breeds have the heavy body of a RIR with occasional black tips. They are friendly, sturdy and lay a lovely brown egg. One of the better layers so if egg production is important to you these should be on your list. These are very friendly birds and would make great pets as well as additions to your laying flock. The classic farmyard style hen. The chicks can be sexed as day olds.

Norfolk Grey
An old Norfolk Breed originally called the Black Mariah, thought to have died out until a few were spotted in a back garden and luckily the owner was prepared to sell them on to help preserve the breed. A beautiful bird known for its egg laying throughout the year.
These are real character birds and the perfect choice if you want to keep a
cockerel. Please note these birds CANNOT be sexed as day olds. |

|
Wybar
Silver Wybars - One of my rarer breeds, these lovely birds are a
pure breed but were originally a cross between a Silver Laced Wyandotte
and a Barred Plymouth Rock. These birds can be sexed on hatching and
are bantams but I am already working on a large fowl Silver Wybar and
in the future a Gold Wybar.
The chicks can be sexed as day olds. |
